Why they're like this

Left column is the character. Right column is the plant. They are the same column.

The bit

What they say

“Give me your newest leaf. Cold. A draught, from the left. Since roughly November. The spirits are very clear.”

The botany

Why it's actually true

Named for its clear veins. Needs atmosphere (humidity), grows on limestone rather than soil, and keeps a papery cataphyll veil over every emerging leaf. Reading leaves is a real diagnostic skill, which is why her readings are accurate.

Ask the Shelf

They answer at length, mostly about themselves. The box is the part that's true.
What They're Actually Telling You
  • No questions answered yet. This is where the corrections go, one per answer, always in base ink.
  • The box is the Management speaking. It never jokes, never hedges, and is never voiced aloud.

Who they can't avoid

Same room. No exits.
